A Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria has ordered substituted service on key witnesses in the ongoing investigation into the death of popular Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

The individuals ordered to be served include Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and Samson Eletu, aka Sam Larry.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi granted the application made by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to serve witness summons through a national newspaper and social media platforms. Other witnesses include Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo, his lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade, a nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and his driver, Fidelis Esanbor.

The legal team representing Mohbad’s father, led by Mr. Wahab Shittu SAN, argued for the summons, seeking to gather testimonies on the circumstances leading to the singer’s death on September 12, 2023. The court also approved the recall of Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in charge of the case, ASP Muhammad Yusuf, for further questioning.

The inquest continues as the court awaits compliance with the orders, and the witnesses are expected to provide their testimonies at the next hearing.

Mohbad, who died at the age of 27, left the Marlian Music label, owned by Naira Marley, in 2022. His death sparked significant controversy, leading to multiple arrests and an ongoing investigation by a special police team in Lagos.
