The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of a warehouse and 54 steel containers linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The assets, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Magboro, Ogun State, were seized after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed for their forfeiture, as no individuals or entities came forward to claim them.
The court’s decision followed an interim forfeiture order issued on November 28, 2024, and an announcement in national newspapers inviting interested parties to contest the forfeiture. With no objections raised, Justice Deinde Dipeolu confirmed the final forfeiture of the 1.925-hectare property and the containers, which are suspected to have been acquired through unlawful activities.
EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, emphasized that the forfeiture was made under constitutional provisions and relevant fraud-related laws. Justice Dipeolu granted the final forfeiture order, enabling the assets to be handed over to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The legal battle over Emefiele’s assets continues, with the EFCC pursuing further investigations into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as CBN governor.
