A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of $4.7 million, ₦830 million, and multiple properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Yellim Bogoro, in a ruling delivered on Friday, February 21, 2025, also ordered the forfeiture of $900,000 worth of investments traced to Anita Joy Omoile, a close relative of Emefiele.
Additionally, the court ruled that: $4.4 million traced to Deep Blue Energy Services Ltd be forfeited; ₦283 million in Zenith Bank, linked to Liman Investment Ltd, be forfeited, and €20,000 and £1,999.50 traced to Exactquote Bureau De Change (BDC), also linked to Omoile, be forfeited.
The court’s decision came at the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which argued that the funds and assets were proceeds of unlawful activities.
This ruling marks another significant legal setback for Emefiele, who has been under investigation for alleged corruption and financial misconduct during his tenure as CBN governor.
