The Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria has issued an order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from taking disciplinary action against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following her recent altercation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order on Tuesday after hearing an ex parte application filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team. The senator, who represents Kogi Central, had been summoned by the committee after a heated exchange with Akpabio during a Senate plenary on February 20.
During the session, Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly disrupted proceedings by refusing to accept her assigned seat and repeatedly challenging Akpabio’s rulings, leading to the disciplinary referral.
The controversy escalated further on February 28 when the senator, in an interview on Arise TV, alleged that her troubles in the Senate began after she rejected inappropriate advances from the Senate President.
With the court’s intervention, the Senate is now barred from proceeding with disciplinary measures against Akpoti-Uduaghan pending further legal review.
This is a developing story, and more updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
