A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Nigeria, has granted bail to former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, and Bello Yero, a former Permanent Secretary in the state’s Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The two are facing a 15-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which includes allegations of criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, and the illegal diversion of N27 billion in public funds.
In his ruling on Thursday, Justice Sylvanus Oriji set bail at N150 million for each defendant. The court required them to provide two responsible sureties—one of whom must be a director in the Federal Civil Service, while the other must be a resident of the Federal Capital Territory. Additionally, both men were barred from traveling abroad without prior permission from the court.
The ex-Governor, who appeared frail and walked with the aid of a stick, exited the courtroom accompanied by his co-defendant and EFCC officials. Their trial is linked to allegations of the illegal diversion of over N1 billion from the Bureau’s contingency fund.
