The Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria has dismissed two applications filed by Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In one application, Kanu sought bail and requested a transfer from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to Kuje prison. Justice Binta Nyako, ruling on Monday, rejected both applications, stating that the issues had previously been addressed and dismissed by her court.

Justice Nyako noted that Kanu had jumped bail previously granted to him and fled the country. The judge highlighted that those who stood surety for Kanu had applied to be discharged from their obligations as they were unable to locate him.

“The only option open to Kanu is to approach the Court of Appeal on these issues,” Justice Nyako stated, dismissing the defense’s argument that the Supreme Court had ruled against the revocation of his earlier bail.

Following the ruling, Kanu vocally protested from the dock, declaring that he would not stand trial before any court in Nigeria. He argued that any attempt to try him would violate Nigeria’s Constitution and international laws.

The decision comes amid continued legal battles and heightened tensions surrounding Kanu’s detention and trial.
