The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has adjourned the separate cases against former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, to allow lawyers to attend the burial of former EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde.

Emefiele faces a four-count charge for allegedly printing N684 million naira notes without authorization, while Sirika and his brother, Ahmad, are answering to a 10-count charge for alleged contract award scam.

The EFCC alleged that Emefiele unlawfully approved the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the consolidated revenue fund and printed naira notes without President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval.

The court granted Emefiele bail and heard testimony from a former CBN Director, Ahmed Bello Umar, before adjourning the case.

Sirika’s trial was also adjourned shortly after the first witness, Musa Odiniya, a former Director of Procurement in the Federal Ministry of Aviation, began testifying.

Both cases were adjourned to allow the lawyers to attend Lamorde’s burial on Wednesday.

The cases will resume on Wednesday, with the prosecution expected to present further evidence against the defendants.
