An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the trial of popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, to March 26 to allow the prosecution to merge his charges with those of his workers.
When the case resumed on Wednesday, Senior State Counsel Timileyin Oredein informed the court that prosecuting Portable separately from his nine workers would be inefficient and a waste of judicial time. He reminded the court that both the artist and his workers had been arraigned on similar charges on February 6.
Portable and his workers are facing a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction while armed with cutlasses and a gun, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. They were also accused of assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Oredein requested a short adjournment to merge and substitute the charges before proceeding to trial.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until March 26.
