The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has postponed the hearing of a privacy breach case filed by Oba Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, against Yoruba Nation agitator Chief Sunday Igboho, until January 14, 2025.
Adams’ lawsuit, numbered M/1006/2024, seeks N5 billion in damages from Igboho, alleging that he unlawfully published a private telephone conversation involving Adams without consent, which Adams argues has harmed his reputation.
In a statement, Adams’ counsel, Mr. R.O. Solahudeen, who held a brief for Mr. Kehinde Adegbite, emphasized, “The respondent’s actions have caused severe injury to the office of the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland. We will ensure all necessary legal documents are served accordingly through the court bailiff.”
Representing Igboho, defence counsel Mr. Junaid Sanusi, alongside Mr. Olalekan Banjo, told the court they only learned of the case through media reports and had yet to receive official documentation. “We appeared today because we saw the matter in the news. We have not been served any papers, but we are ready to receive them on behalf of our client,” Sanusi stated.
In response, Justice A.O. Lajide instructed the claimant’s counsel to complete all document service by January 14, 2025, when the case will proceed to hearing.
