A Christian youth group, Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF), has taken responsibility for the arrest of popular TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, also known as Seaking, over alleged cyberbullying of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye.
Ogunsanwo was apprehended in Lagos by officers of the Nigeria Police Force and later transferred to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dasuki Galandanchi. The arrest followed a viral TikTok video in which the content creator allegedly described Pastor Adeboye as “very stupid and foolish” for subjecting his congregation to a 100-day fast.
In a statement, CCYF spokesperson Adama condemned the TikToker’s remarks, calling them “brazen cyber harassment” that undermines cultural and moral values. He emphasized the need to curb disrespect toward Christian leaders, warning that social media attacks on revered religious figures would no longer be tolerated.
“This act of cyber harassment is not only reprehensible but also an attack on our core cultural values,” Adama said. “Christian leaders and elders deserve utmost respect, as they embody the wisdom, experience, and cultural legacy of our nation.”
The group further confirmed Ogunsanwo’s arrest and revealed that he would be charged to court for his “unprovoked, distasteful, and disrespectful insult” toward Pastor Adeboye. They cited Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2024 (as amended), which criminalizes cyber harassment and carries potential imprisonment as punishment.
Meanwhile, former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has also confirmed the arrest, stating that Ogunsanwo remains in police custody.
