Chidimma Adetshina, a former contestant in the Miss South Africa competition, has withdrawn from the contest, citing concerns for the safety and well-being of her family. The decision comes amid a series of controversies and a government investigation into her citizenship.

Earlier in the competition, Chidimma faced backlash from some South Africans who questioned her eligibility, claiming she was a Nigerian citizen and therefore unqualified to compete. A petition was signed by thousands demanding her withdrawal. The situation escalated when the South African Home Affairs Department began investigating allegations that her mother had committed identity fraud.

Chidimma announced her withdrawal via Instagram on Thursday, August 8, 2024. In her statement, she expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey but emphasized that her family’s safety was her top priority.

“Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey; however, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and well-being of my family and me,” she stated.

Chidimma also thanked the Miss South Africa Organisation and wished her fellow finalists success in the remainder of the competition.
