Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye has said he is not afraid and will not be intimidated following a controversial remark by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Okinbaloye made the statement while responding publicly to the comment, maintaining that he remains committed to his professional duties and would not be deterred by threats or pressure.

He stressed that journalism grounded in ethics and professional standards is a responsibility to the public and should not be influenced by those in positions of power.

Wike’s remark, made during a media interaction in Abuja, had sparked widespread criticism from civil society groups, media organisations, and political figures, who described the statement as inappropriate.

The minister had reacted to comments made during a television programme where concerns were raised about political developments in the country.

Following the backlash, the remark was later described as not being a literal threat, with clarification that it was an expression made in frustration.

Despite this, the incident has continued to generate debate about press freedom and the safety of journalists in the country.
