Nigeria’s Home Eagles have earned their place in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with an emphatic 3-1 victory over archrivals Ghana on Saturday night in Uyo.
The Nigerian team dominated the match from the onset, scoring three goals within six minutes during an electric first half.
Sodiq Ismail opened the scoring in the 18th minute, converting a precise pass from team captain Junior Nduka. Just three minutes later, Nduka doubled the lead with a composed finish inside the box. The momentum continued as Rangers winger Isaac Saviour capitalized on a defensive lapse by Ghana to score Nigeria’s third goal.
Ghana managed to reduce the deficit in the 72nd minute when substitute Amankona Stephen found the net, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
The victory marks a triumphant return for Nigeria to the CHAN tournament after missing out on the last two editions. The Home Eagles will now prepare to compete against the continent’s best in the upcoming championship.
