With just two weeks until Christmas and New Year celebrations, severe cash scarcity in Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina States is creating significant hardship for residents and threatening to disrupt the festive season.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that banks and ATMs in the affected states are overwhelmed with long queues, often leaving residents unable to access cash. Point-of-Sale (POS) operators have also complained about limited cash availability, leading to increased transaction charges.

The shortage is severely affecting businesses and households, with traders reporting low sales and families struggling to meet basic needs. Many residents fear that if the situation continues, it could dampen the celebrations.

“We’re already feeling the pressure. Without cash, how are we supposed to prepare for Christmas and New Year? It’s the same story as last year,” lamented a resident of Kaduna.

The residents are urging authorities to address the issue urgently to prevent further hardship during the holiday season.
