An Allied Air Cargo aircraft experienced a tyre burst and skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 10:05 AM, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed in a statement.
The aircraft, with registration number 5N-JRT, had five passengers on board. All were safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for medical evaluation.
Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, reported no injuries. She added that the airport’s emergency response team and accident investigators promptly arrived at the scene, and the runway has been temporarily closed to allow for clearance and safety checks.
The incident caused significant delays to departing flights, disrupting airport operations. FAAN assured the public that the runway would reopen soon and urged patience while investigations continue.
The agency also discouraged speculation and advised awaiting the preliminary report from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
FAAN expressed gratitude to the aviation community and the public for their understanding during this time.
