Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya, made a public return to the country on Monday, quelling widespread rumours of his death. The 91-year-old leader arrived at Yaoundé’s international airport, where he was greeted by a jubilant crowd and appeared alongside his wife, Chantal, on state broadcaster CRTV.

Biya, who had been out of the public eye since early September after attending the China-Africa summit in Beijing, sparked concerns about his health and whereabouts. His extended absence led to mounting speculation, with many questioning whether the long-serving president was still alive.

Upon his return, a CRTV presenter announced, “Today the president is on his way and this will put an end to all the speculation.”

As the presidential plane touched down, billboards in the capital displayed messages such as, “Welcome home, Mr President of the Republic,” with portraits of Biya in the background, marking the end of the uncertainty surrounding his condition.
