Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has appointed his son, Franck Emmanuel Biya, as Vice President of the Republic in a move that significantly reshapes the country’s political structure.

The appointment was announced through an official decree, which also names Franck Biya as Head of the Armed Forces, placing him in direct control of the country’s military.

In addition to these roles, he has been designated as Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Defence, positioning him at the centre of both executive authority and national security operations.

The development marks a major consolidation of power within the presidency, as both political leadership succession and military command are now closely tied to the president’s immediate family.

The decision comes amid ongoing political tensions and debates over succession in Cameroon, where President Biya has remained in power for decades.

Observers say the move is likely to intensify concerns about governance and democratic accountability as questions grow over the country’s political future.
