The nominees for the 2025 BET Awards were unveiled on Thursday, with Nigeria’s Afrobeats stars securing multiple nominations. Leading the pack is Ayra Starr, who earned three nods, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act.
Other Nigerian nominees include Tems, recognized in the BET Her category for her songs Burning and Hold On, while Rema and Shallipopi each received one nomination—Best International Act and Best New International Act, respectively. Burna Boy also made the list, competing for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.
American rapper Kendrick Lamar dominates this year’s nominations with 10, followed by Drake, Future, Doechii, and GloRilla, each with six.
The awards ceremony will take place on June 9 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on BET.
This year’s nominations highlight the continued global rise of Afrobeats, with Nigerian artists maintaining their strong presence on the international music scene.
