Nigerian music sensation Damini Ogulu, known worldwide as Burna Boy, has joined the elite league of African artists by surpassing one billion streams in the United Kingdom.
This monumental achievement was celebrated with the presentation of a BRIT plaque during his sold-out performance at the London Stadium on Saturday night.
Sunny Green Itodo reports that Burna Boy, affectionately called the ‘African Giant,’ now stands alongside Wizkid as the only African musicians to reach this milestone in the UK. This honor not only underscores Burna Boy’s global appeal but also solidifies his status in the international music scene.
In addition to his streaming success, Burna Boy holds the record for the highest-peaking African album on the UK charts with his sixth studio album, ‘Love, Damini,’ which topped the chart in July 2022.
Saturday’s event marked another historic moment as Burna Boy became the first African artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity London Stadium twice.
