Leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), a key legacy bloc of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have declared their unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, dismissing rumours of discontent and planned defections.
The resolution, signed by prominent members of the former CPC, comes amid speculation that the bloc felt marginalized following the exit of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, the CPC leaders described the reports as “baseless and mischievous,” reaffirming their loyalty to the APC and Tinubu’s administration. “We remain a vital part of the APC, fully committed to its leadership and vision,” the statement read.
Signatories included former Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Al-Makura, ex-Katsina Governor Aminu Masari, former Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, and other key figures such as Senator Ibrahim Musa, Farouk Aliyu, and Waziri Bulama.
The group expressed full confidence in Tinubu’s economic policies, acknowledging short-term challenges but insisting they are necessary for long-term national prosperity. “We fully endorse the economic and governance reforms led by President Tinubu,” the statement said. “While these policies may present challenges, they are crucial steps toward rebuilding our economy.”
The bloc also urged aggrieved members to seek redress through internal party mechanisms rather than public dissent.
The development followed a solidarity phone call from former President Muhammadu Buhari to President Tinubu on his birthday, where Buhari reportedly assured him of his support.
Other signatories to the resolution included Senator Mustafa Salihu, Farouk Aliyu, Almajiri Geidam, Dr. Nasiru Argungu, and several other prominent figures from the former CPC bloc.
The statement concluded with a call for unity, urging all APC members to work together in preserving the party’s legacy and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
