The Edo State government has uncovered and sealed a brothel operating within the premises of Ujuele Primary School in Esan West Local Government Area. The discovery was announced on Thursday during a press briefing in Benin City by the State Coordinator for the Protection of Government Property, Eugene Okolosie.

According to Okolosie, the brothel was built inside the school following illegal land encroachment, which was brought to the government’s attention by concerned community members.

The government acted swiftly to shut down the illicit operation and recover nearly 90 percent of the encroached land, including school property.

Okolosie revealed that over 2,000 plots of land have been reclaimed from land grabbers across the state, where more than 150,000 houses were found to have been built on government land. He urged prospective property buyers to seek proper clearance from the Edo Geographic Information Service to avoid fraudulent transactions.

Highlighting the severity of the issue, Okolosie stressed that schools must remain safe environments for learning and not be exploited for illegal activities.

The government is currently discussing plans with the governor to convert some of the reclaimed properties for public use. The ongoing crackdown reflects the state’s commitment to protecting public assets and ensuring the integrity of educational institutions.
