The British Soap Awards after-party at London’s Hackney Town Hall descended into chaos on Saturday night after a bomb threat forced an emergency evacuation of the venue.
The star-studded celebration, hosted by Jane McDonald, Sir David Jason, and Larry Lamb, was abruptly halted just before 1 a.m. when security ordered all guests to leave immediately. Actors from popular UK soap operas, including EastEnders and Hollyoaks, were seen gathered outside, visibly stunned and confused by the sudden evacuation.
An eyewitness described the scene as “total panic,” with security rushing guests out without initially explaining the reason. It was later confirmed that a bomb threat had been made, leaving attendees standing outside in shock.
ITV confirmed the incident, stating, “Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the after-party venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely.”
Videos shared online showed prominent soap stars such as EastEnders’ Tameka Empson and Hollyoaks’ Emmett J. Scanlan among the crowds outside, while security cordoned off the area. Some guests expressed frustration after being denied re-entry.
“It was surreal. One minute we were celebrating, the next we were out on the pavement wondering what was going on,” an attendee said.
No official details have been released about the source or credibility of the bomb threat. ITV and the Metropolitan Police have been contacted for further information.
Earlier in the evening, EastEnders dominated the awards, winning eight trophies including Best Soap, marking the show’s 40th anniversary. Highlights included the return of iconic character Angie Watts and awards for Lacey Turner and Steve McFadden.
In contrast, Coronation Street and Emmerdale did not win any major awards, a setback ahead of ITV’s planned changes to episode durations in 2026.
Despite the night’s glamour and celebration, the bomb scare cast a shadow over the event, ending the evening with uncertainty and disruption.
