Brian Wilson, the celebrated co-founder and creative force behind The Beach Boys, has passed away at the age of 82, his family confirmed.

In a statement, his loved ones expressed deep sorrow over the loss, asking for privacy as they navigate this difficult time. “We are heartbroken… and at a loss for words,” the message read. “We know the world is grieving with us.”

Born in 1942 in Hawthorne, California, Wilson formed the iconic band with his brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. The group went on to become one of the most influential and best-selling rock acts in music history, achieving massive global success with over 100 million records sold.

Known for his groundbreaking studio work, Wilson was a driving force behind hits like I Get AroundHelp Me, Rhonda, and Good Vibrations. His innovative approach to music production, particularly on the acclaimed Pet Sounds album, helped define a generation of sound and solidified his legacy as a visionary in the industry.

Wilson’s personal life included his marriage to Melinda, who passed away in 2024. Together, they adopted five children: Dakota Rose, Daria Rose, Delanie Rose, Dylan, and Dash. He also had two daughters, Carnie and Wendy, from a previous marriage.

In later years, Wilson faced serious health challenges, including a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and, more recently, dementia. Despite these battles, his impact on music and culture remains profound and enduring.
