Troops from Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted a suspected terrorist courier on January 2, 2025, at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area, Borno State. The operation averted a planned Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack targeting MNJTF personnel.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Murktar Alhaji Chari, confessed to transporting bomb-making materials for an imminent attack in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area. Seized items included four empty 12kg cylinders, a 6kg cylinder, two carburetor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose—key components for constructing explosive devices.

According to intelligence reports, the planned attack was meant as retaliation for recent MNJTF operations that resulted in significant losses for the terrorist group, including the elimination of militants and the seizure of weapons.

Major General Ibrahim Ali, MNJTF Force Commander, praised the troops and CJTF for their alertness and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Task Force’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring security in the Lake Chad region.

The suspect is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
