A man named Shuaibu Yusuf from Borno State climbed a radio mast in Abuja, Nigeria on Monday, July 8, 2024, threatening to commit suicide over pressing national issues.

Yusuf, who ascended the mast at Aso Radio, declared his willingness to sacrifice his life unless the government met several demands. His demands include the restoration of fuel subsidies, a state of emergency to address insecurity in several northern states, and immediate action against terrorism in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Niger, and Borno.

He also called for the opening of borders to combat food shortages and for government intervention to address the issue of out-of-school children.

Emergency responders, including the Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and FCT officials, arrived on the scene to manage the situation.

Reports indicate that Yusuf left a note outlining his intentions before climbing the mast. His drastic action underscores the rising frustration among Nigerians, with recent months seeing a surge in suicide cases tied to socio-economic pressures.
