The Federal Government of Nigreria has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following claims that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, avoided serving his jail term in a correctional facility.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered the probe on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, through a statement issued by his media aide, Babatunde Alao. The move comes after viral audio surfaced, allegedly revealing that Bobrisky spent his prison sentence in a rented apartment rather than the correctional center, as arranged by a senior prison official.

According to the leaked audio, a prominent figure reportedly contacted a senior officer in the prison service to secure an apartment for Bobrisky, bypassing his actual jail term inside the facility.

Reacting to the allegations, Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the government will not tolerate any misconduct or corruption in the correctional service. “The Ministry will not compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. Any form of indiscipline and corruption will attract severe consequences,” the minister stated.

A special investigative team, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, has been tasked with probing the matter. The minister assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, impartial, and transparent, with disciplinary actions to be taken against any personnel found guilty.
