The tax evasion case against Binance Holdings Limited and its executives has been stalled at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The company’s staff, Tigran Gambaryan, failed to appear in court for arraignment, despite being served with charges by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Binance is facing a 4-count charge for allegedly failing to register with the FIRS and pay relevant taxes. The company is also accused of not issuing invoices to subscribers for determining and paying value-added taxes.

Gambaryan’s counsel, Chukwuka Ikwuazo (SAN), explained that his client was not present due to issues with the Correctional Service. The counsel for the FIRS, Moses Ideh, expressed displeasure over the absence and opposed a stand-down on the matter.

Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the matter until June 14 for arraignment. The case has been stalled due to the absence of the defendant, and the court is awaiting his presence for further proceedings.

Binance is accused of tax evasion alongside its officials, including Nadeem Anjarwalla, who fled the country on March 22, 2024. The company faces charges for failing to comply with tax regulations and pay relevant taxes. The case is ongoing, with the next hearing set for June 14.
