In a recent video, notorious bandit leader Bello Turji denied claims of sponsorship by political figures, asserting that his group is solely supported by God. This comes amid ongoing accusations between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, regarding the sponsorship of terrorism in the region.
Turji’s statement follows recent challenges by Matawalle, who dared Governor Lawal to swear with the Quran to prove his lack of involvement in the banditry plaguing Zamfara. In the video, Turji dismissed the political rivalry, stating, “Governor Dauda Lawal and Bello Matawalle labelling each other as terrorist sponsors will not help. Nobody is sponsoring us except God.”
The heated exchanges between Matawalle and Lawal have drawn public attention, with both leaders denying any connections to banditry while accusing each other of complicity in the state’s security crisis.
As the situation in Zamfara continues to deteriorate, Turji’s denial further complicates the search for accountability and a resolution to the ongoing violence in the state.
