Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Nigerian female artist to appear on the U.S. Billboard 200 Album chart.
Her sophomore album, The Year I Turned 21, debuted at No. 195 on the chart on Monday.
The Billboard Charts official account tweeted the notable debuts: “Debuts on this week’s #Billboard200: No. 195, @ayrastarr The Year I Turned 21.” The album also made waves internationally, debuting at No. 80 on the UK Official Album chart and at No. 72 in France.
The Year I Turned 21 follows the success of Burna Boy’s Love, Damini, which peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and was the first Nigerian album to top the UK album chart.
As Ayra Starr continues to break barriers, her achievement highlights the expanding presence of Nigerian artists on global charts.
