A brazen daylight attack unfolded at the Labour Party’s Lagos State secretariat in Ikeja GRA on Monday, as approximately 300 suspected armed thugs stormed the premises, vandalizing property and making off with millions of naira in cash along with sensitive documents.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived around 10 a.m., overwhelming staff members as they ransacked offices in a coordinated operation lasting nearly an hour. “They came heavily armed and knew exactly what they wanted,” disclosed one traumatized staff member who requested anonymity. “After clearing out our cash reserves, they specifically targeted filing cabinets containing important party documents.”

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed responding to distress calls but arrived after the perpetrators had fled the scene. Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated, “We’ve launched a full-scale investigation to identify these criminals and determine the motive behind this audacious attack. Forensic teams are currently processing the crime scene.”

The incident has raised political tensions in Lagos, coming just weeks after similar attacks on opposition party offices in other states. Labour Party Chairman Julius Abure condemned the assault as “a calculated attempt to intimidate opposition voices,” calling for immediate federal intervention to protect democratic institutions.

Political analysts suggest the theft of documents may indicate an attempt to disrupt the party’s preparations for upcoming elections.

Security has been heightened at opposition party offices across Lagos as authorities work to determine if this was an isolated criminal act or part of a broader pattern of political violence.

The Labour Party has demanded an emergency meeting with security chiefs, while the Lagos State government has promised N5 million for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators. As investigations continue, business owners in Ikeja GRA have reported increased police patrols in the affluent district.
