The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has affirmed the selection and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, overturning an earlier ruling that nullified his appointment.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Justice Yargata Nimpar led a three-member panel in ruling in favor of Oba Olaoye on all 10 grounds of appeal.
The case arose from a previous ruling by Justice K. A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court, Ogbomoso, on October 25, 2023, which declared the selection process “irregular, null, and void” for failing to comply with the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.
However, the appellate court set aside the lower court’s judgment, reaffirming Oba Olaoye’s legitimacy as the rightful Soun of Ogbomoso.
