Muhammad Na’Allah, a pilgrim from Gumi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has returned €1,750 (about $1,900) that he found at the Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The sum was handed over to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for return to its rightful owner.
Receiving the money at NAHCON’s office in Ummuljud, Makkah, Chairman Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi praised Na’Allah for his integrity, remarking that the act “symbolizes his name (Na’Allah), demonstrating his closeness to Allah.” Arabi noted, “This shows his pilgrimage has positively impacted his personal character, behavior, and attitude.”
Na’Allah’s gesture follows a similar act of honesty by Abba Limawa from Jigawa State, who recently returned 10,500 Russian Rubles, 800 Dollars, and 690 Saudi Riyals.
Na’Allah explained he found the money in a waist bag while heading to pray at Masjid Haram and initially thought to ignore it but later decided to ensure it was returned to its owner. He recounted, “I thought it might belong to a Nigerian, especially some of our elderly women. When I realized it didn’t have any signs of belonging to a Nigerian, I handed it over to the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board for onward delivery to NAHCON.”
NAHCON Chairman Arabi commended both pilgrims for their exemplary honesty, enhancing Nigeria’s image internationally.
