The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of three police inspectors following allegations of corruption. The officers reportedly accosted an unsuspecting member of the public during a security patrol, forcibly searched his phone, and extorted money from him.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the CP has directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings against the implicated officers.

During their interrogation, CP Orutugu expressed strong disapproval of their conduct, describing it as unprofessional and unacceptable.

He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to being a disciplined, transparent, responsible, and accountable institution, and will not tolerate any form of abuse of office, corruption, or unprofessional behavior.

The CP emphasized that such actions not only violate the professional calling of the police but also undermine public trust and the effective execution of policies and directives.
