The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria, has announced the suspension of the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-East, Chief Ali Odefa.

The suspension, which was made effective immediately, was disclosed on Friday, October 4, 2024, in Abuja following a meeting of the Ward Executive Committee.

Suspension Announcement

During a press briefing in Abuja, Herbert Onyedikachi, Acting Chairman of the PDP Oguduokwor Ward, along with other executives, outlined the reasons behind Chief Odefa’s suspension. He stated that the decision was due to alleged anti-party activities and other offenses deemed harmful to the party’s image and interests.

“His suspension is in compliance with the provision of Section 57(3) of the PDP Constitution,” Onyedikachi said, emphasizing that the Ward Executive Committee had the authority to take such action. Chief Odefa has also been referred to the Ward Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and possible sanctions.

The PDP Ward Executive Committee urged party members to remain dedicated to the party’s goals and objectives, adding that the suspension was necessary to maintain party discipline and uphold the PDP’s values.

“We urge our members to remain steadfast in the course of our dear party, PDP,” Onyedikachi added.

Odefa’s Response

In a swift reaction, Chief Odefa dismissed the suspension as an attempt to seek attention by what he referred to as “faceless cowards.” Speaking in a telephone interview, Odefa expressed disbelief over the announcement being made in Abuja rather than Ebonyi State, where the party’s leadership is based.

“I’m in Abakaliki as we speak. Don’t you wonder why they left the whole of Ebonyi State to go to Abuja to make such an announcement?” Odefa remarked. He labeled the individuals behind the suspension as “attention seekers” who were unknown to the party.

The PDP National Working Committee is expected to review the suspension and take appropriate action in line with the party’s disciplinary procedures.
