The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has arrived in Nigeria from Canada to undergo traditional rites before his official coronation.

Owoade landed at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday at 6:25 p.m., accompanied by his wife. He was warmly received by the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, with traditional drummers and dancers adding to the festive atmosphere.

Having recently received his certificate of appointment and staff of office from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Oba Owoade is now set to proceed with the necessary rites in Oyo.

His media aide, Bode Durojaiye, confirmed that the traditional rites will include visits to specific houses for sacrifices, appeasements, and overnight stays, leading up to his seclusion in Ipebi—a sacred palace ritual marking the final ancestral ceremonies before his formal coronation.

Durojaiye emphasized the sacred nature of the Alaafin institution, calling it a deeply respected pillar of Yoruba tradition.
