Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the Acting First Lady of the state following the death of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno. The appointment, which aims to carry forward the work of the late First Lady, has received strong backing from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

During a condolence visit to the Eno family in Uyo on Friday, Senator Tinubu expressed her support for the decision, highlighting the importance of continuity in sustaining the projects started by the late First Lady, particularly her pet initiative, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA). Tinubu praised the move, noting, “This thoughtful decision ensures that the legacy of Patience Eno lives on, and it mirrors practices seen in other countries like the United States.”

Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, reflected on the profound loss of his wife, whom he described as “a gift from God, a source of comfort, and my greatest supporter.” Introducing his daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the First Lady, the governor said, “It is not an easy task ahead, but Helen will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs to ensure the projects initiated by her mother continue.”

Senator Tinubu, addressing Helen directly, said, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I know you well, and I believe God will guide you. You will accomplish even more than your mother.”

Governor Eno also addressed rumors about remarrying, humorously stating, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. Her legacy will live on in our hearts, and that’s why I introduced Helen to continue the work.”

The visit was also attended by Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, and other high-profile guests.
