Senate President Godswill Akpabio has initiated fresh legal proceedings against suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a sarcastic apology letter she posted on social media. The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja (Case No: CS/384/25), demands the immediate removal of the controversial post from all her platforms.
The dispute stems from an April 27 Facebook post where Senator Natasha penned a scathing mock apology, stating: “It is with deepest sarcasm that I apologize for possessing dignity in your exalted presence… How remiss of me not to understand that my refusal to indulge your ‘requests’ violated unwritten laws of entitlement.” The post contained multiple thinly-veiled references to ongoing sexual harassment allegations between both politicians.
Akpabio’s lead counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, contends the post violated an April 4 court order prohibiting public statements about the case. The suit seeks:
1) Immediate deletion of the post
2) A written apology in two national dailies
3) A sworn affidavit confirming compliance
Legal analysts note this escalates an already tense standoff between the Senate leadership and the suspended lawmaker. Senator Natasha’s media team maintains the post falls within free speech protections, setting the stage for a contentious courtroom battle over constitutional rights versus judicial orders.
The case has drawn renewed attention to Nigeria’s #MeToo movement in politics, with women’s rights groups closely monitoring proceedings. No hearing date has been set yet for the new lawsuit.
