A male student of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, Nigeria was allegedly beaten to death inside the Shepherd Inn hostel by fellow students for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.
Reports indicate that the assault, which included forcibly shaving the victim’s hair, began at 6 pm on Friday and continued until the student succumbed to his injuries around 10 am on Saturday.
Videos shared with reporters show the deceased being beaten with sticks while other students encouraged the assailants.
The university’s spokesperson, Femi Atoyebi, confirmed the incident, stating that the involved students have been expelled and handed over to the police for prosecution. Atoyebi emphasized that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and anti-social behavior, clarifying that the expelled students were not part of any cult group.
