The Israeli military has announced the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah following a series of airstrikes on Beirut.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they targeted Hezbollah’s central headquarters, which they claim was located beneath residential buildings in the Dahieh district of the Lebanese capital.

“Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world,” the Israeli military declared after confirming the operation.

The first wave of attacks sent thick clouds of smoke across the city, with windows rattling from the explosions. Lebanese health officials have reported at least six additional casualties and 91 injuries resulting from the strikes.

Initially, conflicting reports emerged regarding Nasrallah’s fate, with some sources suggesting that he had survived the assault. However, hours later, Israel confirmed his death, though Hezbollah has yet to release an official statement on the matter.

In addition to Nasrallah, the IDF stated that several high-ranking Hezbollah commanders, including Ali Karaki, the commander of the southern front, were also killed.

This latest escalation comes after weeks of increasing tension along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. Following the strikes, Israeli forces launched further attacks on Beirut and the Bekaa Valley.

Beirut’s southern suburbs were eerily empty on Saturday morning, with smoke rising from the areas hit in the Israeli air raids. The situation remains tense, as further details are expected to emerge in the coming hours.
