Auwal Dankode, an employee of the Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, has been commended for his honesty after returning $10,000 (approximately N16 million) found in an aircraft while cleaning.
According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makaman, Dankode promptly reported the discovery to the airline company’s manager, initiating a search for the rightful owner of the money. Zagazola praised Dankode, saying, “Auwal’s actions serve as a shining example of the positive impact that even small acts of kindness can have.”
Zagazola further highlighted Dankode’s reputation, stating, “Auwal, originally from Kode in Kano State, is known for his strong fear of God and honesty. His selfless act has highlighted the importance of honesty and accountability in the workplace.”
The commendation extended to social media, where users expressed admiration for Dankode’s integrity. A user with the handle @SuperSlimEli tweeted, “I respect people like this. We still have good people in this country; they should be protected at all costs.” Another user, Yaya Aba (@Maxajee), remarked, “He’s God-fearing… most people would have kept mute about it and spent the money.”
Dankode’s immediate and ethical response to finding the cash has made him a beacon of integrity and has earned him widespread respect and commendation from Nigerians across various platforms.
