Air Peace has announced the suspension of all flight operations nationwide due to the ongoing strike action by workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET). The airline cited the critical role of NIMET in providing weather reports essential for safe landings, particularly during the season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Without these reports, flight safety cannot be guaranteed, prompting Air Peace to take the precautionary measure of suspending operations until NIMET resumes full service. Passengers will be contacted with updates and options for rescheduling.

The NIMET strike, backed by three industry unions, is over issues of conditions of service and remuneration. The unions had given an ultimatum to the management, which expired without resolution, leading to the indefinite strike.

As a result, NIMET is unable to provide essential weather services, including Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) and meteorological information, posing a significant threat to safe flight operations. The strike has led to a total lockdown of NIMET services, with no immediate ceasefire in sight.
