
The African Union Commission has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrike on Rafah, which killed 45 people, including women and children, in a displacement camp. The strike occurred despite a recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering an end to Israel’s military action in Rafah.
African Union Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed outrage, stating that Israel’s actions demonstrate “contempt” for the ICJ’s ruling and international law. He emphasized the need for urgent enforcement of the ICJ’s order to maintain global order.
The ICJ had ordered Israel to halt its Rafah offensive, release hostages, and allow unhindered humanitarian aid into Gaza. However, Israel has dismissed the ruling, insisting the court erred.
The Gaza conflict has resulted in significant human suffering, with over 35,984 people killed, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The African Union’s condemnation highlights the growing international concern over the escalating crisis.
