Speed Darlington, a well-known singer and Nigerian social media personality, has been confirmed to be in police custody in Abuja after going missing for several days. Popular activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, disclosed that Darlington, also known as Akpi, was arrested in Lagos on Friday, October 4, 2024, before being transferred to Abuja.
Adeyanju, in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, said, “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos… and has been in detention since then. The petition against him was written by Burna Boy.”
The arrest follows concerns raised by social media influencer Constance Nwogu, who earlier alarmed fans about Darlington’s disappearance, noting he had been unreachable for three days. Darlington’s last public activity was a YouTube post on October 4, and his absence from social media further fueled speculation.
Though the exact details of Burna Boy’s petition remain undisclosed, it is speculated that a video by Darlington questioning the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy Award might have triggered the complaint.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy responded to the news of Darlington’s disappearance with a cryptic post on X, stating, “Who’s missing?”
As of press time, the Nigerian Police Force has not issued an official statement regarding the arrest.
