AC Milan have announced the dismissal of head coach Sergio Conceicao after just six months in charge of the Serie A club. Conceicao, 50, was appointed last December on an 18-month contract following the sacking of Paulo Fonseca.
Despite a promising start where he led Milan to victory in the Italian Super Cup, the team’s performance under Conceicao failed to meet expectations. They lost the Coppa Italia final to Bologna and finished eighth in the Serie A, missing out on European football for the next season. This disappointing league finish marked the club’s first absence from European competition since 2019.
In an official statement, AC Milan thanked Conceicao and his staff for their commitment, professionalism, and dedication during their tenure. The club also noted that Conceicao’s Super Cup win was the 50th trophy in Milan’s history.
Reports indicate that Massimiliano Allegri, who previously managed Milan from 2010 to 2014 and won the Serie A title in 2011, has agreed to return as the new head coach. Allegri, 57, has been out of work since leaving Juventus at the end of the 2023-24 season and is expected to sign a contract soon.
Conceicao’s tenure saw 16 wins in 31 games, but the team’s inability to secure consistent results ultimately led to his departure. Milan now look to Allegri to restore the club’s competitive edge and return to European competition.
