Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Nigeria, has raised the reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the killing of five soldiers at Obikabia Junction in Aba from N25 million to N30 million.
This announcement was made during a meeting with top military officials, including the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hasan Abubakar, and the Commander of the 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier General O.O. Diya, at the governor’s residence on Friday.
Addressing the security challenge, Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s firm stance against terrorism, stating, “Abia State under my watch is a no-go area for terrorists, killers, kidnappers, and other criminals.”
He expressed gratitude for the dedication of security forces in combating crime and explained that the additional N5 million for the bounty was contributed by a state resident living in the United States.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hasan Abubakar, noted the importance of collaboration with Abia State to enhance security measures. “The Nigeria Air Force is keen on exploring opportunities for partnership with Abia State and will continue to work with other security agencies to ensure the safety of life and property,” Abubakar said.
The Abia State Government had previously set a N25 million bounty following the attack last week, which saw gunmen storm the military unit at Obikabia Junction, Ogbor Hill, killing soldiers, burning the unit, and destroying a patrol van. Some soldiers reportedly escaped the attack.
