On Monday, May 27, the Kano State High Court, Nigeria, under Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, directed the Commissioner of Police in Kano to immediately evacuate Aminu Bayero from the Nasarawa Palace. The court issued an interim injunction restraining Bayero and four other dethroned emirs from parading themselves as emirs until further notice.
The ruling came after an ex parte application was filed by Barrister Ibrahim Isa Wangida on behalf of the applicants. Justice Aliyu emphasized that the decision was made “in the interest of peace in Kano,” noting the necessity of preventing the emirs from continuing to act in their former capacities.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kano State, should immediately take over the palace of the Emir of Kano situated at State Road Kano and evict the 1st Defendant/Respondent from the said palace,” the court ordered. This injunction also restrains Bayero and the former emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from parading themselves as emirs.
Justice Aliyu’s order mandates that the Commissioner of Police ensures the immediate implementation of the court’s directive to uphold justice. The court has scheduled the hearing of the motion on notice for June 11, 2024.
