Controversial media personality Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, has been released from police custody after meeting his bail conditions.

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the release on his X (formerly Twitter) page, saying, “Special appreciation to #YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer #stanalieke, and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington.”

Darlington was arrested last Friday in Lagos and transferred to Abuja after Burna Boy lodged a formal complaint, accusing him of defamation and cyberstalking. The charges stemmed from a viral video in which Darlington questioned Burna Boy’s Grammy win for his album Twice As Tall. In the video, Darlington taunted the artist, asking him to explain his connection with U.S. rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is facing serious charges.

“After this remark, Darlington was secretly picked up by the police,” Adeyanju explained.

Following the release, Adeyanju expressed gratitude to all who helped secure Darlington’s freedom and commended the professionalism of the police, saying, “Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for their professionalism today,” He said.
