The federal government of Nigeria has authorized Dangote Refinery to become the exclusive supplier of jet fuel (Jet A1) to airline operators in Nigeria. Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, announced the development during an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Keyamo explained that the decision had the support of Nigerian airline operators:

“The airline operators just met recently. With my blessing, it’s a decision from the airline operators in Nigeria that they should only buy from Dangote refinery Jet A1.”

He further clarified that the new arrangement aligns with the naira-for-crude deal recently initiated between Dangote and the federal government:

“It’s all Naira, no Dollar component… We will buy in naira. I’m sure we are going to have access to cheaper Jet A1 fuel.”

This move aims to stabilize prices and reduce reliance on foreign exchange markets.
