A Federal High Court in Abuja has reinstated Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), declaring the 2024 national convention held in Nnewi, which re-elected him, as valid. The court ruled that the convention followed all the legal requirements under Nigerian law.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Justice Emeka Nwite, who delivered the ruling, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize and accord full privileges to Abure and the National Working Committee led by him.

INEC had previously announced that it did not recognize Abure’s leadership, citing violations of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act during the March 2024 National Convention. However, the court’s decision overturned INEC’s stance, ruling in favor of Abure’s leadership.
