Former Senator Dino Melaye has emerged victorious in a six-year legal battle against the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), after being acquitted in the final case against him.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Sylvanus Oriji at the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja.

Melaye had been facing charges of providing false information related to an alleged assassination attempt on his life in 2017. The case began in February 2018, when Melaye was accused of falsely implicating Edward Onoja, the then-Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, in the plot.

Celebrating the verdict on social media platform X, Melaye expressed his gratitude towards his legal team and faith in divine justice. “Justice served after six years. Justice delayed is never justice denied. God alone be praised. SEN. DINO MELAYE 12 – FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND IGP 0. 12 CASES ALL WON BY GOD,” he posted.

Melaye’s legal ordeal had seen multiple delays, including the death of Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu in December 2017, who was originally presiding over the case.

The former senator has faced multiple allegations of assassination plots throughout the years, all of which he has denied, accusing state authorities of orchestrating efforts to silence him.
